Name:
Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States

I am a Völva. Völva is Old Norse for “staff carrier,” the traveling spiritual guide learned in the ways of my European/Scandinavian Folk Soul. Like Thorbjorg from Eric the Red’s Saga, I am invited into communities to lead ceremony, share information, impart wisdom, and perpetuate the folk ways through song, story, and dance. I heal oorlag at it's source and read wyrd for individuals and groups.

Sacred Harvest Festival

For a chance to hear my new songs and take a workshop on Volva Stav, join me at the
Sacred Harvest Festival near Albert Lea.

Friday and Saturday August 14-15.

It's a wonderful festival to attend. Many fine workshops and a chance to meet and learn from Prudence Priest who comes from the West Coast. She is a great contributor to the ancestral folkways of our Indo-European traditions and I can't wait to meet her, share my work and learn from her.

Other than this, Drew and I continue to record and are gearing up for a Minneapolis debut of our new work September 17th at the Capri Theater in North Minneapolis. Mark your calendars!

Random Rune Pull for today - Othel. It just keeps popping up! As I create in the living tradition of my ancestral folkways, I am in constant awareness of the layers of ancestors who make up my being. I tip my horn to them and bless them with all the thanks and love in my heart.

Rune pull for Spring Transitions

Rad
Raidho
The journey is long and arduous but the horse is swift and sure. I am about to journey, so, yes, this is the correct rune. Off to Scandinavia I go to sing my Volva songs in the land of my ancestors. When I will return to Minnesota, no one really knows. It could be weeks, it could be months.

This rune is to me the journeyman stage of my process. Indeed I have learned my songs, practiced and considered and now it is time to hit the road and prove myself.

I will miss Minnesota in the Spring.
I will sing to you all from the fjords and valleys, a low kulokkr, a great wyrdlokkr, and learn new songs from the land spirits to bring home.

Back on the Blog

After a needed hiatus, I have been requested to continue my blogging. So here I am, back again!
New programs for 2009 and a new look to my website karitauring.com, a new cd and a book took some time to create!

So here is a rune pull for my blogging in 2009 - Dag and Thurs - interesting.
Thurs is the giant race, I have a patron from that race - Gjalp.
Dag is the day, it starts at sunset with dream time and ends with rest.

My blogging will be powerful and infrequent I predict.

Yours,
Kari

Runes at the Shanties

Art Shanty Project
I came to the village on the frozen lake. The home of misfit toys hosted me. A good place to start blessings. Community blessing, Norse Shamanic style, it starts with kulning, cow calls and bells. Stavs struck on ice and cross sticks needed to balance and make our way. We dance svict and pols around a circle and sing to Austri, Vestri, Sudri, Nordri. We ask for blessings from the lost soul beneath the ice. We all cheer "skol paa fisken" hail to the fish.

Then from one home to the next I carried my runes. Each householder drawing for their home, their art shanty.

And then, I come across a plane crash. These guys are trying to find Nifelheim. I gave guidance where I could. Hela, be kind to them if they come your way.

Bless em. Bless em all!
